Two Girls One Building

The church is a partial ruin set in the old grounds of Carmel College. (See our post on Carmel College here .) The church itself is set on the river back, and is one of the many Grade II listed buildings on the site. People estimate the church was built in the 12th century, with heavy renovations and works though out the 18th century. In 1981 the church was declared redundant. The church has been left open, and many people in the community see to its running, such as general cleaning and leaving fresh flowers. It is a beautifully small church, and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

 Built in 1948, founded by a Kopul Rosen. Carmel College was a Jewish boarding school, situated in Mongewell. It was Europes only Jewish boarding school, closing in 1997. The grounds were apparently sold to property developers after is closure, but this was overturned by the charity commision whom claimed the land was greatly undersold.There are a number of different and sprawling buildings on the site, most noteably, the synagogue with stained glass windows from artist Nehemia Azas. Also the Dinning hall and Ampitheatre are Grade II listed buildings, due to the architecture of Thomas Hancock. The Julius Gottlieb gallery and Boathouse, designed by Sir Basil Spense, are also Grade II listed. Currently there are a number of new houses on the estate, the Boathouse has been converted into a home, and the site when not being used for filming, or police drills, it is having extensive work done in some of the buildings.
