Carmel College

Built in 1948, founded by a Kopul Rosen. Carmel College was a Jewish boarding school, situated in Mongewell. It was Europes only Jewish boarding school, closing in 1997. The grounds were apparently sold to property developers after is closure, but this was overturned by the charity commision whom claimed the land was greatly undersold. There are a number of different and sprawling buildings on the site, most noteably, the synagogue with stained glass windows from artist Nehemia Azas. Also the Dinning hall and Ampitheatre are Grade II listed buildings, due to the architecture of Thomas Hancock. The Julius Gottlieb gallery and Boathouse, designed by Sir Basil Spense, are also Grade II listed.

Currently there are a number of new houses on the estate, the Boathouse has been converted into a home, and the site when not being used for filming, or police drills, it is having extensive work done in some of the buildings. We did not expect so many people to be on site, and it certainly made exploring quite difficult.

Apparently this swimming pool was used as a set for the 2018 film 'Annihilation' film. As well as the Main Manor house, being inspiration for Agatha Christie in the 1952 play, The Mousetrap.
